The Jamie Experiment

One fine afternoon, it was decided that an attempt at mugging Chemical Bonding would be made at the SMTP tutorial room. But alas, it was not to be so for Jamie, who much preferred a power nap over mugging. (Not that this would have posed a problem, considering that sleeping and mugging are both part of our four core activities as an SMTP class, the other two being talking and pia-ing.)

Being rather curious and inquisitive scientists, we seized the opportunity to answer the following questions which piqued our interest:

  • Would reading "bedtime stories" (i.e. Chemical Bonding notes) to Jamie cause her to fall into a state of peaceful slumber faster?
  • Does subconscious learning really work? Would Jamie be able to recall with ease the physical properties of metals upon awakening?

Unfortunately, our experiment was not quite ideal, given the absence of suitable control experiments (i.e. Jamie falling asleep without being read "bedtime stories") and our failure to test Jamie's knowledge of the physical properties of metals before and after her short pilgrimage to the land of Nod.

Nevertheless, imbued with strong sense of scientific integrity, we present our unmodified, albeit flawed, findings below. Firstly, our test subject, Jamie the Hamster. (No, to clarify in advance, Jamie did not camwhore; she was just unlucky to be caught on camera unawares.)
